Broadcaster deploys XDCAM air
Creating quality content faster
The files just keep flowing. XDCAM air has brought us optimised efficiency and seamless workflow. The news is always there at any given moment – whether it’s here, abroad or on another continent.
Sladjan Pesic, Deputy Technical Manager, TV Pink
Part of Pink Media Group, Serbian commercial broadcaster TV Pink recently embarked on a major modernisation programme to update its news production capabilities. As part of this initiative TV Pink has added XDCAM air cloud-based workflow service licenses to complement its existing Sony XDCAM handheld camcorders.
XDCAM air complements the in-built wireless capabilities of Pink’s X200 and Z280 cameras, providing a flexible bridge between content acquired in the field and its studio network. Newsroom planning data can be sent directly to connected cameras, with acquired footage tagged for easy location within the workflow chain. This ensures that news teams can retrieve files and images as quickly as possible.
“The footage is waiting for me when I come back from the field” says correspondent Lena Bursca. “It speeds up the process of creating a story. By the time we get back from the field, everything is already waiting for us. We can focus on the story itself and make it better.” XDCAM air also simplifies live streaming directly from the field to TV Pink’s on-air servers and social media sites.
XDCAM air also integrates seamlessly with Sony Hive, TV Pink’s news production system, explains Deputy Technical Manager Sladjan Pesic: “We can start editing quickly with small proxy files pulled wirelessly from the camera, and then the full resolution rendering is done at the end by Hive. Everything is integrated into a complete system. This marks a significant improvement in our efficiency.”
“Our association with Sony stretches back more than two decades” notes Sladjan. “As we’ve grown, Sony has met our needs, and over time that cooperation has only strengthened. The best feature of XDCAM air is its mobility. It enables each camera, each reporter and each camera operator to become a live broadcast source. That’s what attracted us to this service: it really works – perfectly.”
