Kringvarp Føroya makes significant investment in broadcast solutions with Sony HDC-1700, RCP-1500 and CCUs

Interoperable, reliable and secure equipment will meet KVF’s needs today and tomorrow

Amsterdam, 9th September 2016: Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) is the public broadcaster on the Faroe Islands. The Faroe Islands are an archipelago between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Island with a population of 49,200 people. The public broadcaster KVF was founded in 2005, and is a merger between national Faroese radio (Útvarp Føroya) and national Faroese Television (Sjónvarp Føroya). When looking for new solutions, Sony Professional’s HDC-1700 was chosen as KVF was focused on making an investment in cost effective and reliable equipment that integrates into a wide variety of workflows and supports several HD and SD signal formats.

Challenge – keeping up with the future of sports production
The rapid evolution broadcasting and sports production means that broadcasters need to keep up with the trends of both today and tomorrow. In order to stay up to date with current needs and the predicted growth of HD (and 4K) production, particularly for sports like football, KVF was determined to invest in cameras that could provide 50p progressive pictures should the need arise.

KVF decided on the HDC-1700 from Sony Professional for two main reasons. Firstly, although there is no immediate requirement for KVF to invest in kit for higher sports production, the HDC-1700 on rental offers the possibility to record in 50p when the opportunity turns up. Secondly, the HDC-1700 solution from Sony Professional was chosen because it provides a fibre based path for potential progressive production, gearing up KVF for the future of sports production. The HDC-1700 dual-format HD system camera is equipped with sophisticated three-chip 2/3-inch image sensors to provide superior picture quality. It supports a range of HD and SD signal formats including 1080/50p, 1080/60p, 720/50p, and 720/59.94p.

In addition to the HDC-1700, Sony’s remote control panel solution, the RCP-1500, was also chosen by KVF for this installation. The RCP-1500 combines versatile control options with a touch panel LCD display and user-friendly buttons. This makes it a remote control panel that offers both ease of operation and multi-functionality, including joystick type control for iris and master black adjustment.
“We are delighted that, after considered evaluation of competitive solutions, KVF chose the Sony HDC family of products as the foundation for its HD migration. The HDC-1700 gives KVF a future-proofed solution for both studio and event productions in the Faroe Islands, delivering quality, reliability and security as well as integrating seamlessly with Sony’s family of HDC camera systems,” says Michael Sheehan at Sony Professional Nordic.
