Basingstoke, UK, 2nd December 2019 – Sony is attending this year’s edition of the Giornate Professionali di Cinema film festival in Sorrento, Italy, to showcase its advanced range of high-end digital cinema solutions. These include the Sony high-contrast digital cinema laser projectors that create incredibly sharp, rich and immersive images in native 4K resolution while requiring low maintenance and offering cinema operators high reliability. A number of different Sony Digital Cinema solutions will be on display on the stands of its partners, Prevost and CinemaNext. In collaboration with ANEC, Sony will also be setting up a cocktail lounge at the festival to host a range of exclusive events for industry professionals, to celebrate another great year of Italian and international cinema.
Sony continues to be the go-to partner for cinema operators around the world, including Italy where a number of cinemas have equipped their screens with Sony Digital Cinema solutions to offer visitors a unique cinematic experience. The Empire Cinema Partinico, a modern multiplex near Palermo that offers customers comfortable leather seats and two-seater sofas, features one Sony SRX-R815P projectors. Equally, the renowned Istituto Luce Cinecittà, a state-owned organisation that aims to support Italian film makers and manages one of Europe’s most important film archives, has chosen to install a third SRX-R510P in one of its review rooms.
“With the rise of increasingly sophisticated home cinema solutions for consumers, modern cinemas need to offer visitors a unique viewing experience if they want to stay relevant. Investing in advanced and reliable solutions that require low maintenance will be crucial for cinema operators that want to overcome this challenge,” explains Enrico Ferrari, Regional Sales Head, South and East Europe Theatre Solutions, Sony Professional Europe. “At Sony, we are offering cinema operators state-of-the-art digital cinema technologies that help captivate audiences through immersive and emotional viewing experiences, and, crucially, provide real ROI over time.”
Empire Cinema at Partinico
The Empire Cinema in Partinico needed a projector that could recreate clear, bright images while simultaneously offering a high contrast ratio. To overcome this challenge, the cinema worked closely with Sony and decided to install one SRX-R815P 4K digital cinema projection systems across its screens. This laser-based projector is ideal for small and medium-sized screens and offers compatibility with HDR, 2D and 3D content. The projector’s reliable and long-lasting laser eliminates the need to regularly replace the light source, a common challenge with traditional lamp-based cinema projectors.
Gaspare Cavaliere, owner of the Empire Cinema in Partinico said, “Back in the day when movies were first digitally distributed in Italy, we installed two digital cinema projectors at the Empire Cinema, followed by one SRX-R510P and one SRX-R515P. Over the years, our customers have enjoyed experiencing the best possible image quality from Sony. So, when the time came to install projectors in our two latest screens, it was clear to me that we were going to go with another SRX-R510P as well as a SRX-R815P, which complement our advanced audio system and comfortable leather seating perfectly to offer our customers the best possible cinematic experience.”
Istituto Luce Cinecittà
Istituto Luce Cinecittà is one of the world’s leading and most renowned production companies. It has been using Sony Digital Cinema solutions that have been optimised for demanding colour correction applications and grading, and offer stunning 4K image quality, for many years. When looking to introduce a third review room package, it was clear to Istituto Luce Cinecittà that it would go with the Sony SRX-R510P.
The Review Room package offers a wide range of technical improvements, including optics and calibration tools, for the SRX-R510P projector. These go far beyond standard DCI film tolerances in order to meet demanding post-production needs. In addition to the industry-leading 8000:1 contrast ratio (four times higher than the industry average), the solution guarantees native 4K resolution and HDR, offering movie makers access to the best technologies available on the market.
