Virtual Production has allowed our business to expand and thrive, even during the current pandemic that’s placed restrictions on conventional event production. We found Virtual Production extremely easy to pick up with practically no training. We’re delivering a very large number of online events for our clients, and it’s been working really well for us.

Growing demand for quality online events
Milan-based /‘aut/ studio is a fast-growing specialist in online events production. Its rapidly expanding client base includes a wide range of corporate clients who rely on /‘aut/ studio to deliver polished, professional webinars, presentations and online coverage of live events. Content created by /‘aut/ studio is typically streamed live and on demand via clients’ websites, or via social platforms including Facebook and YouTube.
Web events produced from anywhere
Sony’s Virtual Production service has allowed /‘aut/ studio to deliver high quality online events from its main offices or from any other location, requiring fewer on-site staff and production equipment. During the covid pandemic staff have been able to produce events from home, needing only a web browser to mix camera sources, pre-recorded video clips, audio, titling and graphics remotely via Virtual Production’s user-friendly interface. “We found Virtual Production extremely easy to pick up with practically no training” notes /‘aut/ studio CTO Fabio Semino. “We’re delivering a very large number of online events for our clients, and it’s been working really well for us.”

Virtual Production
Virtual Production is Sony’s cloud native solution that allows content creators to produce polished, professional quality online events from anywhere – without the need to transport production hardware and large crews to another location. A Pay-As-You-Go service, Sony Virtual Production is cost effective, flexible and easy to set up. Images and sound captured with cameras on site can be switched and mixed in the cloud by an operator at any remote location via their Internet-connected device. With many venues and production facilities across Europe currently in lockdown, it’s an agile way to create quality content and engage with audiences.
International events with remote multilingual translation
“In September we used Virtual Production to help us create socially-distanced online events remotely for Vinitaly, a major annual wine and spirits fair hosted in Verona” says Fabio. “For international events of this kind you’d normally have real-time multilingual translation provided on site. With the help of Virtual Production we were able to include live commentary from translators working from their homes”. Translation to and from Italian was made possible with the help of Virtual Production’s commentary function, allowing interpreters working from home to add a translation of the audio feed to the live stream in real time.

Large sensor cameras capture beautiful low light images
/‘aut/ studio has also used Sony’s FX9 and FS7 large-format sensor cameras to acquire high-quality images for its online events. “The low-light sensitivity of the FX9 was ideal for an event we produced for Fondazione Antonio Monzino to showcase its collection of historic musical instruments” says Fabio. “We were shooting at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan where available light levels were very low. The FX9 allowed us to capture really beautiful pictures.”
A central part of successful event production
“Virtual Production is a central part of what we do – it’s changed the way we work” confirms Fabio. “2020 was a challenging year for many reasons. Despite this we managed to successfully deliver more than 500 customer events with the help of Virtual Production, and 2021 is already shaping up to be another very busy year with many more high-profile projects.”
