Sony joins the board of directors at the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA)
As a Founding Principal Member of the organisation, AMWA has recognised Sony’s commitment to driving open standards and its contribution to developing industry-wide solutions
Basingstoke – 1st September 2017- Sony Professional Solutions is pleased to announce that Sony has become a principal member of the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA), and as such has been added to the board of directors. Along with other industry leaders, Sony will have an essential role in contributing to the development, adoption, standardisation and refinement of the Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS).
“We’re delighted that Sony has chosen to become a principal member of the AMWA,” said Brad Gilmer, Executive Director at AMWA. “Sony’s recent contributions to our Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS) is greatly valued and we look forward to working with them in the longer term to set the direction of the organisation.”
The AMWA is an open, community-driven forum driving the development of solutions for Networked Media workflows. Its worldwide members represent both media companies and their suppliers, focusing on the industry move to IP-based architectures. To help enable software-based systems to recognise and exploit devices, AMWA has developed the Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS), including NMOS IS-04/IS-05/IS-06, that are essential pieces of an IP Live Production system.
Since Sony began developing its IP Live Production system the company has believed that simply using IP for transport isn’t enough to make a live production system a more efficient and practical approach than SDI. In order to realise the full benefits of IP the systems need to have additional intelligence built in. By adopting systems that take advantage of the work conducted within the AMWA NMOS project, broadcasters can realise the full benefits of an IP network for live production, as well as helping to drive interoperability across the industry.
Sony has actively contributed to the specifications of NMOS: IS-04, IS-05 & IS-06, recently hosting an AMWA NMOS interoperability workshop at the Sony Professional Solutions headquarters in Basingstoke, UK. As a Founding Principal Member of AMWA, the company will be demonstrating this functionality as part of the IP Showcase at this year’s IBC (Conference Room E106), including SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE ST 2059, SMPTE ST 2022-7 & NMOS IS-04/IS-05 Device Discovery & Management capable equipment.
“We’re thrilled that AMWA has chosen Sony to join other respected industry players as a principal member of the association,” said Norbert Paquet, Head of Product Management, Sony Professional Solutions. “This recognises our investment in driving the adoption of open standards for IP live production within AMWA, and a number of other industry organisations, to ensure interoperability and best benefits of IP for our customers.”
