Sony’s Authenticity Solutions
Camera Authenticity Explained
Given the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, more and more people are finding it difficult to distinguish what’s real and what’s fake. Camera authenticity aims to tackle this issue by providing traceability and trackability of images and videos from its birth.
How to Start your Authenticity Journey
C2PA (Coalition for Content Authenticity and Provenance) is an open standard open technical standard that provides a way to certify the origin and history of digital media.
As long as your tools are compatible with the C2PA standard, you will be able to verify and re-sign the content.
Sony offers a range of cameras that are compatible with the C2PA standard.
To use Camera Authenticity features on Sony camera, you will need:
1. Camera Licence
2. Certificate
A C2PA certificate is required to generate digital signatures in the C2PA format within the camera. Sony provides a Default Certificate for C2PA digital signatures free of charge, but please note it does not guarantee the validity of the C2PA signature. For applications that guarantee the validity of the C2PA signature, please use a C2PA certificate equivalent to a trustlist.

What Makes Sony's Digital Signature Different
On top of being compatible with C2PA (Coalition for Content Authenticity and Provenance) specification, Sony offers proprietary Digital Signature solution that makes the information more robust. This will help any media organisation to verify additional information recorded on image/video files so they can make more educated judgement.
This service is offered through Sony’s Image Validation site, and the service is offered to professional organisations who need to check enhanced details of the images & videos.
3D Detection
Sony cameras capture both the image and 3D depth data along a single light axis, allowing users to verify whether content was recorded from a real 3D subject.
While a digital signature alone cannot confirm authenticity, metadata with 3D depth information provides more information for the verification process.
*Some cameras are not compatible with 3D detection.

Untampered Time
Camera operators can alter the date and time settings on their devices, making this information unreliable.
With Sony cameras, we also record server time in the cloud, ensuring accurate and tamper-proof timestamps.
Modification Analysis (Image only)
If the original image was captured by Sony’s authenticity compatible camera, we can detect detailed changes made to the original picture.

Camera Verify (Beta)
After the verification, a Camera Verify report can be issued to access the results of the authenticity verification.
Your end clients can confirm the authenticity by simply clicking the URL for the Camera Verify report.
