After building a solid foundation providing rental of production and broadcast equipment for TV commercials, a Bangkok-based firm aims high with the Sony VENICE.
Bernadus Junaidi, CEO of Brand Link, remembers the first time he set his eyes on the Sony VENICE camera: “I knew almost instinctively that VENICE was different. It was not just its compact form factor or its amazing specs, but there was something just magical about the VENICE. I knew Brand Link had to get its hands on the VENICE.”
Brand Link, a premier production house and broadcast equipment rental company, has carved a unique place in Thailand supporting TV commercials’ production.
After building a solid foundation in the TV commercials market Brand Link decided in 2019 to expand its capabilities to support local and international film crew.
Adds Bernardus: “Thailand is one giant film set. There was strong demand from both local and international companies for high-end camera gear, and we felt the time was right for Brand Link to enter this space.”
Brand Link built an impressive inventory of top-notch names in cinema cameras, lenses, camera and lighting gear, motion control robot arm, and sound equipment to achieve its goal.
Says Bernardus: “Creativity and cutting-edge technology have defined Brand Link’s success story. Listening to our clients and speaking to cinematographers and DoPs helped us make the right decisions when it comes to adding new gear.”
In the Sony VENICE case, Brand Link was fully aware of how quickly this full-frame cinema camera had gained acceptance in Hollywood.
“Some of the biggest Hollywood movies used the VENICE, and the results have been spectacular. I particularly love the VENICE’s velvety colours and realistic look,” says Bernardus.
Designed exclusively for high-end cinematography, Sony VENICE features a ground-breaking 36 x 24mm full-frame sensor. This helps capture stunning images with a resolution of up to 6048 x 4032 in almost any format. The VENICE also offers complete flexibility and creative freedom to match a filmmaker’s shooting requirements – from aspect ratios to bokeh and lenses.
Bernardus also highlighted the VENICE’s ability to expand its capabilities as needed. “We liked that we can easily customise the VENICE according to a production’s requirements. As a rental house, this allows us more flexibility to mix and match gear for our clients.”
More than just for feature films, Brand Link hopes to deploy the VENICE for TV commercials production too.
Adds Bernardus: “The VENICE is too good to reserve it only for feature films. Our TV commercials clients are always looking at new ways to stand out, and VENICE fits the brief.”
Bernardus also raised a key challenge for the VENICE.
Although VENICE has proven its credentials globally, Thai films’ take-up rate using VENICE has been slow. Says Bernardus: “Cinematographers and DoPs are creatures of habit. That said, we are sure when they try the VENICE, they will be impressed. It will be hard to convince some of them, but we love a challenge. We are confident that Brand Link’s investment in VENICE will pay off beautifully – for our clients and us.”
