Product Stewardship

Responsible manufacturers must consider what happens to their products after use, and product recycling is fundamental to us here at Sony. But designing products for disassembly and recycle is just the start of our post-consumer responsibility. In North America, we work with locally established recycling programs to encourage take-back and recycling of end-of-life products. If you can’t find an event or a drop-off location near you, your product could be eligible for our mail-in program. For responsible recycling opportunities, start here.

Road to Zero: Green Management 2025

Sony incorporates environmental initiatives as a key part of our business through our Road to Zero environmental plan, striving for a zero environmental footprint by 2040. Road to Zero sets a series of specific goals based on four environmental perspectives: curbing climate change, conserving resources, controlling chemical substances, and promoting biodiversity. These 4 key perspectives are viewed through the entire lifecycle of our products and services: Product/service planning and design, operations, raw materials and components procurement, logistics, take back and recycling, and innovation.

Curbing Climate Change

Sony focuses on greenhouse gas emission reduction by featuring environmentally conscious products and services, and incorporating programs in our workplace that save energy and promote renewable energy, and engaging with our supply chain to reduce emissions.

Curbing Climate Change
Conserving Resources

Conserving Resources

Resource conservation is approached through reducing a focus on minimizing use of virgin materials and maximizing use of recycled content. We continually strive to make products lighter, more efficient, and consider opportunities to include recycled material while still maintaining a high-quality product. In the workplace we also focus on resource efficiency and material reuse.

Controlling Chemical Substances

Chemicals are strictly controlled in raw materials and parts through our own chemical substance management standards. Sony classifies chemicals by level of environmental risk with a phase out requirement for particularly hazardous chemicals for both our own operations as well as our suppliers.
