Facilitating high-definition impact that lives up to the Shiseido aesthetic
Shiseido Future University* is a human capital development facility established by Shiseido Company, Limited that looks to develop leaders who will pioneer the next generation. Alongside opening this facility in Ginza, the birthplace of the company, the Shiseido Hanatsubaki Hall on the third floor of the same building was renovated and equipped with video recording facilities. Sony’s Crystal LED was installed as the main large-screen display at the front of the hall.

The Challenge
- Design a high-definition set-up that offers both a sense of realism for livestreaming events and also functions as a backdrop when filming at the venue
- Create an aesthetic fit for the Shiseido image, inspiring creativity
- Adapt the entire space, from the production system to interior design, helping to develop the next generation of leaders
The Solution
- A Sony Crystal LED was installed in the front of the hall, ensuring aesthetic, high-definition viewing when filming or when used normally
- 11 cabinet panels were placed vertically to accommodate the adjustable stage height, ensuring the display’s vertical lines would fit on a dot-by-dot basis at both heights. This combines flexibility with incredible visuals for presentations or filming
- Complete redesign of the hall interior, swapping white tones for dynamic blacks and equipping it with chroma key filming equipment for composite backgrounds in video production and streaming

High-quality visual appeal that also looks good as a video backdrop
Sony’s solution needed to provide a high-definition display and a sense of realism for livestreaming events held at the Shiseido Hanatsubaki Hall. The display also had to function as a backdrop when filming at the venue. After demonstrations and tours using the actual display, the Crystal LED received considerable praise for its outstanding visuals and was chosen for use. The display is designed so that the images appear to rise from your feet when the stage is set up, guaranteeing stylish aesthetics both when filming video or when used normally. The standard stage height was set at 40 cm, which could also be increased to 60 cm depending on how the venue is used. Meanwhile, 11 cabinet panels were placed vertically so that the display’s vertical lines (2,160) would fit on a dot-by-dot basis even when the stage was 60 cm high.
Start-to-finish production, including the video device
In addition to installing the Crystal LED, Sony PCL oversaw everything from the production system to interior design. The interior was completely transformed, swapping the previously white tones for dynamic black. The hall was also equipped with chroma key filming equipment for composite backgrounds in video production and streaming, making it possible to stream live video from Shiseido Hanatsubaki Hall to Shiseido’s main operation sites and various streaming platforms. The hall is now a reimagined, multi-purpose venue that truly lives up to modern-day needs.
At present, the Crystal LED is mainly being utilised for in-house and PR events. In the future, it will also be used for backdrops for an even wider range of events and video filming.
