John de Borman, BSC

In this interview at Camerimage 2022, John de Borman reflects on a 40-year career in the industry working on films as The Full Monty (1997) and Serendipity (2001). He believes cinema is art of playing with emotion, knowing what to show and what to imply. He emphasises the importance of developing your own look and his appreciation of VENICE’s performance in serving his creativity.

When we filmed on film, night shooting, it was 400 ASA if you wanted to avoid grain… With VENICE, which is incredibly sensitive, you can go virtually anywhere now at night, as long as there’s some streetlights… That’s a massive advantage. What I love about VENICE is that its sensor is wonderful saturation, especially with skin tones.
