Fletcher Group adds HDR-capable POV cameras to starting line-up
Fletcher Group, a broadcast services company of NEP, delivers award-winning live event and sports productions for the NFL, NBA and more. Now it offers full HDR coverage, thanks to new Sony POV cameras that smoothly integrate into its workflows.

How we helped

The Challenge
- More and more of Fletcher Group’s clients needed live HDR coverage, from all angles
- Keeping productions agile and scalable meant remotely accessible POV cameras that could fit into small spaces
- The new cameras would have to slot into existing workflows while delivering image quality that met high standards

The Solution
- Dozens of compact HDC-P31 cameras that are small and light enough to deploy almost anywhere
- Three 2/3” global shutter CMOS image sensors in each camera deliver image quality that matches with Fletcher Group’s manned cameras
- Remote accessibility removes the need for in-person maintenance, updates and upgrades

The Outcome
- Delivery of Big Ten coverage in 1080p HDR, as well as footage for the NBA All-Star Game and Women’s Final Four
- The capability for simultaneous SDR and HDR outputs, if needed, for complete production flexibility
- When used with its existing Sony HDC-P50 POV cameras, Fletcher Group can now produce coverage in HD or 4K HDR, depending on client need

Award-winning coverage and raised expectations
Fletcher Group has over 25 years of experience delivering live productions for sports and entertainment. As a broadcast services company of NEP, it’s produced Emmy-winning coverage for everyone from the NBA to the NFL, MBA and NHL. With more of its clients asking for HDR, Fletcher Group needed POV cameras that could deliver compelling high dynamic range images without overhauling its workflows.

Powerful images from a compact body
Having used HDC-P1 cameras before, Fletcher Group turned to Sony’s new, HDR-capable HDC-P31 POV cameras. With three 2/3” CMOS image sensors in each compact body, they deliver HDR images that seamlessly match the feeds from Fletcher’s other camera units—from angles that aren’t usually possible with other cameras. Meanwhile, remote access makes maintenance, updates and improvements easy and efficient.
Agile HDR productions
With HDR-capable POV cameras in place, Fletcher Group can deliver incredibly rich coverage from multiple points and angles. The powerful chipset and sensor mean that the cameras are ideal for integrating with sophisticated control systems. And because HDC-P31s can output SDR and HDR feeds simultaneously, the company is perfectly placed for hybrid production needs and shared resources.
