MOOV serves match-winning Wimbledon images with FR7 PTZ cameras
Virtual studio and live sport graphics specialist has put Sony’s ILME-FR7 Cinema Line full-frame PTZ interchangeable lens camera through its paces at this year’s 2024 Wimbledon tennis championships.
London-based MOOV is a leading virtual studio, sport and events graphics company, offering an array of production services to UK and international broadcasters such as the BBC, TNT Sports, ITV and Amazon Prime. It has contributed to many high-profile sporting events including Wimbledon, The Grand National, Commonwealth Games, Winter and Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The MOOV team played a crucial behind-the-scenes role at this year’s 2024 Wimbledon tennis championships, providing virtual studio facilities to capture on-camera interviews with players during the two-week tournament.
Extremely high-quality cinematic images were served up by Sony’s ILME-FR7 Cinema Line full-frame PTZ camera, whose compact dimensions and remote operation made it an ideal choice for the confines of the small virtual studio. “The FR7 is light weight and easy to install” comments MOOV Creative Director Adam Lawrence.
We’ve been using it in WBS (Wimbledon Broadcast Services) interview rooms, and also in BBC studios. We were just looking for a camera that can make our work sing – and from Day One the FR7 popped straight away. When you just look at how it’s just bringing those colours up, and we can get a really nice zoom that just adds to that realism in the studio.”

A further benefit of the FR7 is its compatibility with a wide range of E-mount interchangeable lenses including primes and zooms. Combined with the camera’s full-frame sensor, this allows production teams to capture extremely high quality cinematic images, even within the confines of smaller studio spaces.
“The FR7 takes it to a whole new level for us” says MOOV’s Creative Technical Lead Naphtali Cave, who explains the camera’s central role in the virtual studio set-up. “It enables automated camera movements that can be triggered at any point by the director whenever they want it. With the FR7 we have incredibly precise camera tracking using the FreeD protocol. It’s incredibly, accurate, stable and easy to use. We never had any slipping: it was right on point, every single time.”
