BBC upgrades Studio V at New Broadcasting House in London with Sony LMD-A180 monitors
The BBC has purchased 11 units of Sony’s LMD-A180 monitors to enhance Studio V at its New Broadcasting House in London. Stephen Neal, Director, BBC commented “When we were looking at replacing the monitor stack for the gallery that controls Studio V at New Broadcasting House in London, we wanted to continue with discrete individual camera preview monitors rather than move to multiviewers. We had previously had good experience with discrete camera preview monitors and had a very small-time window to carry out the work.
Our gallery is quite wide, and the front desk is quite near the monitor stack, so the key requirement for our monitors was excellent viewing angle performance.
This would continue to deliver us consistent brightness levels and colour balance for the vision mixer and director position across all camera preview monitors. Deinterlacing performance and overall motion rendition were also important to us.
We tested several suitably sized monitors, and the Sony LMD-A180 was the best solution for our requirements and budget. Out of the box they required very little individual calibration and matched each other consistently. As full HD 1920×1080 their clarity and lack of aliasing, compared to our previous 1366×768 panels is also a major plus for us.”
