Videe advances live production innovation with Sony 5G technologies
Leading Italian broadcast video services specialist has successfully trialled Sony 5G connectivity solutions that streamline mobile live production and support agile on-location workflows.
Exploring new live production workflows
Headquartered in Italy, Videe is a leading broadcast services company delivering end-to-end solutions from system design and logistics to TV shooting, graphics, transmission and post-production. Empowering content owners, producers, and broadcasters since 1988, Videe has realised more than 1,000 projects for customers in over 70 countries.
Always at the forefront of embracing next-generation workflows, Videe is currently exploring the possibilities of live events production with the help of Sony’s 5G technologies.
An early adopter of new technology trends, Videe has been collaborating closely with Sony to explore how 5G connectivity can streamline live production, enhance mobility, and support more agile on-location workflows. In a comprehensive commercial trial of the technology Videe has deployed six 5G production kits, built around Sony’s Networked Live production ecosystem.

Stable high-speed data transmission over 5G
The Sony PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter supports fast, stable over-the-air transfer of video and still image files with livestreaming functionality.
Attaching to compatible Sony cameras, the CBK-RPU7 remote production unit supports wireless video transmission with ultra-low latency, low bit rate and very high 4K/HD picture quality.
The NXL-ME80 media edge processor reduces network costs, assuring secure and reliable low-latency media transport over low bitrates without compromising picture quality.

Transforming live sports coverage
Videe and Sony have successfully demonstrated the possibilities of 5G production at sports events including the recent Nitto ATP Finals. Videe provided critical technical infrastructure at this major tennis event, enabling Sony and ATP Media to deliver a 5G Proof-of-Concept with camera connectivity during the tournament’s broadcast operations.
To date Videe has tested Sony’s agile 5G live production solution across a wide range of demanding scenarios, including sailing competitions, downhill skiing events, football matches and reality TV productions.

The 5G solution has also been put through its paces at the 2026 edition of the prestigious Marcialonga long distance cross-country ski race, held every January in Italy’s Trentino region. Building on earlier technology trials, this year’s event featured camera coverage of the finishing line and celebration areas, allowing the Videe team to evaluate the impact of snowy conditions on 5G transmission bandwidth. Highly encouraging results confirmed the robust system’s ability to adapt to different production scenarios. “These tests have allowed us to validate the system under high-movement, dynamic, and bandwidth-intensive conditions” says Gino Campagna, R&D Coordinator at Videe. “This paves the way for a broad portfolio of services and future developments, enabled by a fast, reliable, and dedicated infrastructure in an IP world”.
Videe has relied on an Italian telecommunications operator for the consultancy phase related to the acquisition of specific 5G infrastructural expertise and the use of frequencies in the complex Italian landscape in order to explore the shift from traditional RF, satellite, and bonded-cellular workflows to IP- and 5G- enabled production models along with the new services they enable.
