TF1 upgrades to HDR monitors for news and entertainment content

Television network TF1 chose Sony’s BVM, LMD and PVM-X series monitors to make sure its new and entertainment content was consistent across every stage of production. Now, the French media company’s editing, quality control, traffic and broadcast teams see exactly the same HDR images all though their production chain workflow from ingest to transmission.

How we can help
The Challenge
  • TF1 need perfectly consistent images across the broadcast chain, from acquisition to transmission
  • Quality controllers would need bright, accurate monitors that could handle HDR content and fast-paced workflow
  • Each team member needed to see pictures that were as close as possible to the final broadcast images viewers would see
The Solution
  • A suite of 4K HDR monitors installed across 10 quality control and editing rooms, with high luminance and accurate colour matching
  • 4K HDR master monitors in select rooms for the ultimate in HDR quality checking
  • Numerous HDR monitors for the traffic team, with fast image processing that helps each member of the department speed up their workflow
The Outcome
  • Consistent HDR images across every team, with no doubt about how content appears to viewer

HDR quality control on a growing scale

As the largest television network in France, TF1 reaches millions of viewers with original programming and TV shows syndicated from around the world. With an increasing volume of 4K and HDR content, the company needed to make sure that teams in its Parisian headquarters could see exactly the same images that its viewers would from the moment of acquisition. And that would mean upgrading the monitors used across the traffic, quality control and editing teams.

Reliable performance, true colours

TF1 installed xx Sony BVM-HX310 4K master monitors and 13 PVM-X2400 4K HDR monitors across 10 refitted quality control and editing rooms. Now, quality controllers can carefully assess SDR-HDR conversion, thanks to bright, sharp displays with accurate colours that perfectly match across all displays. The traffic team use 30 Sony LMD-A240 HDR monitors to sync audio and video at speed, helping them deliver the highest quality images possible, at the fast pace demanded by news and broadcasting.
