BIONZ XR™ image processing engine

Working in real time, the latest generation BIONZ XR™ image processing engine realises the full performance of the three 1/2-type 4K Exmor R® CMOS image sensors. Full-pixel readout enables extremely high quality 4K60p video images, faithfully capturing the subtlest details and textures in the scene.

Advanced AI Processing Unit for AF

The dedicated AI Processing Unit enables accurate recognition of human subjects based on their anatomical structure, posture and other information. It can recognise subjects even when they’re facing away from the camera, or when their face is not visible such as when wearing a mask. It can even reliably recognise people that appear small due to their distance from the camera, and in situations where their face is angled to the camera, in shade or backlit. Moreover, the PXW-Z300 can automatically adjust composition to keep human subjects in the centre of the frame. An evolved ATW (Auto Tracing White Balance) function helps ensure natural looking white balance.

Three 1/2-type back-illuminated 4K Exmor R® CMOS image sensors

Designed for news and production, the three 1/2-type Exmor R® CMOS image sensors capture exceptionally detailed, lifelike images with a deep depth of field and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 (H x V) effective pixels. A high sensitivity of F12* is complemented by exceptional colour reproduction and wide dynamic range with very low noise for superb footage, whether you’re shooting in 4K or Full HD.

Intuitive fingertip operation

Three independent rings allow fingertip adjustment of focus, zoom and iris without taking your eyes off the scene. Rotation end stops help with intuitive operation by feel of ring position. The focus ring also slides forward or backward for immediate switching between autofocus and full manual focus.

17x optical zoom gives wide shooting range

Capture everything from wide angle interviews in tight spaces to detail-packed telephoto close-ups. The 17x optical zoom lens delivers a wide focal length range of 30.3-515 mm (35mm full-frame equivalent) with a constant maximum aperture of F1.9 throughout the zoom range. The digital extender* increases maximum magnification up to 4x in HD while maintaining close to original image quality.

Flexible LCD Arm adapts to any situation

The Flexible LCD Arm allows flexible adjustment of viewing angles while shooting. It can be positioned toward the front of the lens for easy viewing with the camera on a shoulder, or aligned with the optical axis of the lens to accommodate a variety of shooting styles.

Stable handheld shooting

Optical image stabilisation that’s built into the camera body minimises image blur caused by camera shake during handheld shooting. Positioning the LCD monitor toward the front of the lens and holding the camera in place against your chest or shoulder enables even more stable shooting with maximised mobility while walking.

Side V-Mount for easy accessory attachment

The versatile V-mount attachment on the side enables a smooth, integrated shooting setup. It’s easy to attach or detach devices such as the PDT-FP1 Portable Data Transmitter (sold separately), smartphone, mobile battery, audio receiver, or other third-party accessory via a 1/4-type screw adaptor.

Achieve your desired look

Fine-tune your footage by adjusting parameters such as black levels, colour matrices and other settings. S-Cinetone, ITU709, and 709tone looks are available as presets for shooting in SDR (BT.709), plus HLG Live, HLG Mild, and HLG Natural as presets for HDR (HLG), allowing easy colour matching with other Sony cameras. In addition to these built-in looks, you can also import custom 3D LUTs to apply your own unique look, enabling flexible and consistent visual expression across different shooting environments.

Ensuring Video Authenticity

Video Authenticity* ensures the credibility of video footage for news gathering and field reporting. The industry-standard C2PA format is used, with an Authenticity Upgrade License required. Once activated, the camera can embed secure digital signatures and maintain content integrity throughout the workflow.

Available License Options:
・Model Name: LCN-DSEP. Authenticity Upgrade License (Perpetual)
A one-time purchase permanently enables the Authenticity feature.
 ・Model Name: LCN-DSEM1. Authenticity Upgrade License (1-Month)
Ideal for short-term or trial use.

With the Authenticity feature activated, footage is digitally signed at capture, preserving originality and allowing edit history tracking through C2PA-compliant metadata. This ensures transparency and trust for applications such as news reporting, legal evidence, and public communications.
