Experience precision imaging and true colours with TRIMASTER™

Overview

TRIMASTER™ technology is a design architecture used to elicit the full performance capabilities of professional flat-panel displays. It comprises the core technologies that enable the highest level of colour accuracy, precision imaging, and picture-quality consistency.

EL (Electro-Luminescence) is a self-emission display device with a wide dynamic range and high picture quality. By refining TRIMASTER™ technology with the new EL device, Sony effectively boosts the performance expectations of the professional industry.

Super top emission technology

The typical structure of an OLED Display panel is a bottom emission structure. This type of structure employs a metal cathode and a chemical desiccant to protect the OLED layer from air and water. It takes light emission from the TFT layer and, due to the structural limitation of the TFT layer’s aperture ratio, the amount of light emission is restricted.

Super Top Emission takes light-emission from the other side of the TFT layer. This top emission structure offers more efficient light emission than a bottom emission structure, and consequently achieves higher brightness.

Micro-cavity structure enhances colour purity

Super Top Emission technology is a micro-cavity structure that incorporates colour filters. Each RGB colour has a different wavelength. Sony’s micro-cavity structure provides different emission layer thicknesses corresponding to the wavelength of each RGB colour. The micro-cavity structure uses an optical resonance effect to enhance colour purity and improve light-emission efficiency. The colour filter of each RGB also enhances the colour purity of emitted light, while reducing ambient light reflection.

Features and benefits

Accurate black reproduction

A key advantage of TRIMASTER™ EL technology from Sony is the fact that because of its self-emitting properties, each pixel can be turned completely off. No other display technology is able to offer this. Our solution is capable of reproducing accurate black with each individual pixel, enabling users to faithfully evaluate each picture image.

Accurate colour reproduction

Our Super Top Emission technology not only offers a wide colour gamut with its purity of the three primary colours, but also maintains this wide colour gamut throughout the entire luminance range.

Quick response with virtually no motion blur

Because the OLED emitting layer inherently responds to any electrical current input, it emits light immediately. Our OLED grey-to-grey switching speed (measured in microseconds, μs) is much faster than that of LCDs (measured in milliseconds, ms).

Viewing angle innovation

The TRIMASTER™ EL OLED panel offers an industry-leading viewing angle compared with other professional flat-panel monitors on the market.

This enables group monitoring – for example, video engineers or colourists can view the display properly from many different angles – and facilitates more efficient content creation activities.
