Overview

Capture even more unforgettable live moments

The extraordinary performance of this new camera system takes live entertainment production to the next level. Building on the success of Sony’s acclaimed HDC-5500, HDC-F5500's Super 35mm 4K CMOS sensor delivers extraordinary clarity and realism with every scene, from wide beauty shots to tight close-ups. Numerous workflow enhancements – including IP networking, remote multi-camera operation and in-CCU recording – enhance the most demanding live entertainment productions including sport, music and drama.

Features

Super 35mm 4K CMOS sensor and global shutter

At the heart of this camera system is Sony’s Super 35mm 4K CMOS sensor. Bringing unprecedented creative expression to the HDC camera series, this large sensor achieves high sensitivity with an impressive signal-to-noise ratio. It’s teamed with Sony’s class-leading global shutter technology to capture stable, precise 4K (UHD) images even with fast-moving subjects: ideal for sport and live entertainment productions involving LED displays and laser beams.

Motorised 8-step ND filter

Built into the camera’s rugged chassis, the 8-step optical Neutral Density filter offers a wide ND range of 0.3 (1/2 = 1 stop) to 2.4 (1/256 = 8 stops) in 0.3 stop increments, allowing camera operators to precisely control the amount of light entering the camera for enhanced creative expression. The ND filter can also be controlled remotely, saving time and streamlining workflow in pressured live production environments.

New viewfinder slide mechanism

Operability is enhanced with a brand new viewfinder slide mechanism that minimises the camera operator's body movements while panning. By sliding the viewfinder closer to the axis of tripod rotation, this ensures an improved viewing angle for the operator. This innovative feature is valuable while shooting in restricted locations at dynamic sport and live events, such as on narrow scaffolding platforms.

Rich focus assist functions

Three focus positions can be assigned to preset buttons, making it quick and easy to find preset focal positions during live shooting.

ARIA(Automatic Restoration of Illumination Attenuation)

F drop and peripheral light loss are unwanted physical phenomena especially in long-distance object shooting.

Ergonomic grip

The widened handle is easy to grip, even when wearing gloves. Visibility through the grip area has also been improved.

Side tally lamp

The side mounted LED tally lamp next to the camera number improves visibility of tally status.

Web menu control

The menu of the optional HDCU-5500 Camera Control Unit can be accessed remotely via an intuitive web browser interface, allowing integrated monitoring of optical levels and CCU status of multiple devices from a single PC. It also offers other useful functions, such as the CCU file for preparation.

In-CCU record option

Adding the optional HKCU-REC55 to the HDCU-5500 Camera Control Unit allows 4K video and audio to be recorded directly to the CCU with no other external recording device needed. Recording can be controlled by a video engineer on the CCU side, allowing the camera operator to focus on capturing beautiful images without distractions.

Ready for IP Live

Both the HDCU-5000 with IP option and the HDCE-TX50 camera extension adaptor allow seamless integration of the new camera system into an all-IP live production system. This brings more efficient workflow to support every IP-oriented live production budget.
