Background
AfreecaTV is a leading video streaming service producer and provider for esports content in Korea. Since its successful P2P streaming service in early 2000, AfreecaTV has been recording 2~3Mil MAU (Monthly Active Users) on average and enthusiastically trying to expand its business to other segment such as esports. AfreecaTV has been covering various esports leagues such as Starcraft by Blizzard, Battle Ground by PUBG, League of Legends & Valorant by Riot Games, etc. And in order to deal with skyrocketing demand for esports content, AfreecaTV considered renovating its current esports arena and establishing 2 more in Seoul.
Challenges
AfreecaTV’s 1st esports arena opened in 2015 and it should have considered additional esports arenas right away, in order to catch up with tremendously increasing demand for esports contents. Experiencing and learning from its 1st arena project, AfreecaTV set excellent operational performance to be able to produce clear and vivid images in current HD/3G format and future format of 4K and HDR and uncompromising system reliability as key factors for the next esports arena projects. AfreecaTV would like to improve its production skill and capability by raising the standard in creative production higher than the expectation.
Sony Solution
Sony has been sustaining close interaction with AfreecaTV since its 1st esports arena project in 2015. Sony and AfreecaTV have helped each other through the continuous growth of the esports industry from a technical and creative perspective. For its new esports arenas, AfreecaTV would like to adopt a high performing live production system, fully meeting the current requirement in HD and preparing for the future format of 4K and HDR as well. Sony offered the seamlessly integrating and future-proof live production system of HDC-3100 and XVS switcher. The HDC-3100 captures all the moments of excitement and thrill at arenas in HD/3G format and XVS switchers deliver those scenes seamlessly to esports fans around the world effortlessly. And these core products can add 4K and HDR functionality by upgrade when they are required.
Sony never fails our expectations for quality and reliability. That’s why Sony always comes first whenever a new production system is considered.
