See Sony’s Latest Innovations for Enhanced Neurosurgery Imaging and OR Workflow in Action at AANS

Get Hands On with New Medical Technology that Supports Lowlight, Video-Over-IP, 4K, 3D, and Content Management

    MCC-1000MD HD camera

SAN DIEGO — April 11, 2019 — Sony Electronics’ Healthcare Solutions will bring its comprehensive surgical imaging workflow technology to the annual meeting of the AANS (American Association of Neurological Surgeons), held April 13-17 in San Diego. Demonstrations will highlight Sony’s top-of-the-line solutions designed for a range of neurosurgery applications. Within the Sony AANS booth, attendees can get hands-on with Sony’s lowlight capable MCC-1000MD HD camera for surgical microscopes, see the detailed resolution of Sony’s latest 27”4K monitors, experience NUCLeUS, an integrated IP-based digital operating room platform, and explore the benefits of a centralized video content management system. With a focus on enhancing surgical workflow and immersive education, Sony will demonstrate end-to-end solutions from capture, recording and displaying to routing, managing, storing and distributing assets.

Highlights of the booth at AANS include:

    HD Camera
Discover the amazing difference that Sony’s latest generation technology can bring to neurosurgery, with the new MCC-1000MD Ultra-sensitive camera for low-light microsurgery applications. The camera can capture remarkably clear video and still images in near darkness for procedures involving areas that are difficult to illuminate during intricate microsurgery.  Plus, simultaneous video output from two MCC-1000MD units can be synchronized, allowing capture of full HD 3D stereoscopic video images. Attendees are invited to stop by to view incredible 2D and 3D neurosurgical video first hand. The highly sensitive MCC-1000MD is a new 2-piece camera with excellent color reproduction, HDR capabilities and low noise. Designed to deliver a high level of detail for neurosurgery applications, the camera head combines three Exmor™ R CMOS sensors. The sensor, combined with Sony’s image processing technology, provides the MCC-1000MD with a sensitivity of F20, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 63 dB. The camera can capture full HD images with 1,080 effective scanning lines, allowing viewers to see details and movement with greater clarity than is possible in an interlaced format.

    Integrated Digital Operating Room Platform
NUCLeUS is an open, scalable and vendor-neutral video-over-IP platform that transforms surgical workflow efficiencies for networked hospital environments with the simplicity of a LAN-based connection. It also features 3 significant Smart App Tools: Telestration Tool allows you to annotate video streams remotely and share these annotations in real-time with the OR; Vascularization App gives you a clear and highlighted view of vascular structures; and the Stabilization App that compensates for shifts in the orientation of video from handheld endoscopic camera systems. NUCLeUS connects devices, applications and data transparently for real-time informed decisions and complements Sony’s CMS through planning, recording and sharing of video images and other patient-related data in the Operating Room, across the hospital and beyond.

    4K Monitors
4K monitors allow surgeons and medical teams to view high-resolution images from endoscopes and surgical microscopes while surgery is in progress. The 4K imagery provides increased visualization during and after a surgical procedure, upscales HD images to 4K and can also be helpful for training and education. On display in the AANS booth will be the new LMD-X2705MD and LMD-X2700MD 27-inch 4K surgical monitors with increased resolution for detailed monitoring, which provide another option in Sony’s lineup of 4K displays. The two Sony 55-inch monitors for medical applications, the LMD-X550MD 4K monitor and 55-inch LMD-X550MT 4K/3D monitor, will also be part of Sony’s AANS exhibit.

    Content Management System (CMS)
Sony’s CMS is a simple, secure and comprehensive way to manage surgical videos and still images from one central location. It allows for network-based searching, editing, storage and distribution of 4K, 3D, and HD video obtained from Sony medical recorders and other compatible recording devices. Watch recordings from PCs or iPads, and even stream live surgical procedures, allowing a near real-time view into the OR for staff and residents.
