See Sony’s Latest Innovations in Surgical Imaging and Workflow for Orthopedics at AAOS
New Medical Technology on Display Supports 4K, Integrated IP and Content Management

Sony Electronics’ Healthcare Solutions will showcase its most recent innovations in surgical technology at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), from March 13-15 at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas. With a focus on enhancing surgery and immersive education, Sony will demonstrate end-to-end solutions from capture and visualization to managing, sharing, storing and distributing assets. Sony will exhibit in Booth #4310 during the show.
Attendees will experience NUCLeUS, an integrated IP-based digital operating room platform, as well as Sony’s cost-effective 27” 4K monitors, LMD-X2705MD and LMD-X2700MD, which are available in April. Also on display will be Sony’s 4K monitor lineup, including 31” and 55” options, LMD-X310MD and LMD-X550MD, as well as a the HV0-4000MT 4K/3D recorder. Explore Sony’s Content Management System (CMS), which offers a centralized platform for simple and secure recording, archiving, organizing, sharing and distributing medical assets. Sony will also display its UP-DR80MD with WU-10 wireless print system – the world’s smallest A4 dye sublimation printer which quickly produces photo-quality prints.
Highlights of the booth at AAOS include:
Content Management System (CMS)
- Sony’s CMS is a simple, secure and comprehensive way to manage surgical videos and stills. It allows for network-based searching, editing, storage and distribution of 4K, 3D, and HD video obtained from Sony medical recorders and other compatible recording devices. Watch recordings from PCs or iPads, and even stream live surgical procedures, allowing a near real-time view into the OR for staff and residents.
Integrated Digital Operating Room Platform
- NUCLeUS is an open, scalable and vendor-neutral video-over-IP platform that transforms surgical workflow efficiencies for networked hospital environments with the simplicity of a LAN-based connection. It also features 3 significant Smart App Tools: Telestration Tool allows you to annotate video streams remotely and share these annotations in real-time with the OR; Vascularization App gives you a clear and highlighted view of vascular structures; and the Stabilization App that compensates for shifts in the orientation of video from handheld endoscopic camera systems. NUCLeUS connects devices, applications and data transparently for real-time informed decisions and complements Sony’s CMS through planning, recording and sharing of video images and other patient-related data in the Operating Room, across the hospital and beyond.
4K Monitors
- The new LMD-X2705MD and LMD-X2700MD 27-inch 4K medical monitors with increased resolution for detailed monitoring provide another option in Sony’s lineup of 4K displays, which already includes the 55-inch LMD-X550MD and 31-inch LMD-X310MD. 4K monitors allow surgeons and medical teams to view high-resolution images from endoscopes and surgical microscopes while surgery is in progress. The 4K imagery provides increased visualization during and after a surgical procedure, up-scales HD images to 4K and can also be helpful for training and education.
Medical 4K/3D recorder
- HVO-4000MT records 4K and 3D, and supports HD video and stills simultaneously. The recorder captures long-form video from 4K cameras focused on the operating field and allows for easy sharing of surgical video. The recorder has a 4TB internal hard drive and can connect to a network, so images can be uploaded and viewed by other medical personnel outside of the operating room.
Digital Color Printer for Medical Applications
- Sony’s UP-DR80MD with WU-10 wireless print system is the world’s smallest A4 dye sublimation printer. It incorporates Sony’s dye sublimation technology and produces photo-quality prints. It also employs Sony’s laminating technology, which coats each print with a protective layer that’s resistant to light, heat, water, humidity, and fingerprints. The UP-DR80MD operates at high speed. Printing an A4-sized image takes approximately 76 seconds. The optional wireless print system allows cable-free connection between the UP-DR80MD and surgical endoscopes, ultrasound systems, and other hospital imaging modalities.
