SXRD: Extraordinary clarity, colour and contrast
What is SXRD?
SXRD stands for Silicon X-tal Reflective Display. It’s a new approach to liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplays, which are known for their exceptional contrast ratios. A layer of liquid crystal sits on top of a reflective surface. The tiny gaps between the liquid crystal cells allow very little light to pass through, resulting in exceptionally deep black hues and sharp clarity.
SXRD for uncompromising picture quality
The advanced SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) panel technology featured in Sony’s projectors delivers native 4K-resolution (4096 x 2160) images with 8.8 million pixels for an incredibly lifelike picture. SXRD projection offers rich, inky blacks as well as clear cinematic motion and image smoothness, and can reproduce vibrant colours with more tones and textures than a standard projector system. With highly resistance to heat and light, it ensures spectacularly high and stable brightness.
SXRD delivers native 4K resolution images – that’s 8.85 mega pixels – for a picture that’s so incredibly lifelike.
Our panel widens the illumination area by four times, increasing the reflection rate for greater lucidity.
With a ratio of 4000:1 – much higher than DLP and LCD technologies – SXRD offers unmatched contrast, for precisely delivered shadows and blacks.
Professional applications
Stunning contrast, impressive brightness and stable colour reproduction make SXRD a front-runner for a range of professional applications. Our SXRD projectors are custom-built to match the quality of commercial cinema projectors, with native 4K enabling faithful reproduction of images. Suitable for the most complex projection needs, SXRD is ideal for high-end corporate and educational settings.
High Frame Rate for ultra-smooth pictures
SXRD projectors use a vertically aligned nematic liquid crystal that changes state with lightning-fast speed. This enables the microdisplay to run up to 200 frames per second with minimal motion smear. Combined with the ultra-thin liquid crystal cell gap, this enables our SXRD technology to project images of a quality surpassing DLP projectors. Every detail is clear, with no jagged edges or visible pixels.
Increased pixel density for fine detail
Our SXRD panels incorporate 8.85 million pixels on a 1.5-inch square of silicon. Each projector uses three of these squares for red, green and blue. The pixels are phenomenally small, measuring just 8.5µm (micrometres) across – roughly one eighth the thickness of a human hair – and inter-pixel gaps are reduced to only 0.35µm. The result is a dot-free, cinematic quality image.
