Xi’an Xianyang International Airport is the principal airport serving Xi’an, Shaanxi Province and the whole Guanzhong area. Covering an area of 5 sq km (1.93 sq mi), it is the largest airport in Northwest China.
During a major transformation of the airport’s T2 terminal building in 2020, project leaders sought a high-quality information display and signage solution to replace existing screens across the site. Limitations of their previous displays included inconsistent brightness and color reproduction, contributing to a poor experience for airport visitors. These issues were increased by the effects of dust pollution that had steadily degraded the screens’ performance over their working life. A further concern was the need for displays capable of supporting passengers’ needs with extremely reliable 24/7 operation.
Versatile installation options
Other requirements for the airport’s replacement screens included high image brightness and a wide angle of view, allowing travelers to read information easily under bright ambient lighting conditions. Further criteria included flexible signal connections for easy interfacing with multiple signal sources, and the ability to mount screens horizontally or vertically in landscape or portrait orientation to suit various display requirements. Low energy consumption was also desirable to support the airport’s carbon reduction ambitions.

After evaluating a number of vendor options, Xi’an Xianyang International Airport selected Sony BRAVIA 4K professional displays to handle a wide range of information display and signage applications. The airport has replaced its previous screens with a total of 85 65-inch BU40H Series BRAVIA 4K HDR Professional Displays. Offering high image brightness and clarity, the new displays ensure an enhanced experience for passengers with clear presentation of flight arrival and departure times for passengers, together with boarding details, advice on rescheduled flights, directions for collecting baggage and onward transfer information for arriving travelers.
