Smart Production helps SWR create quality content around the clock

Smart Production by Sony allows German broadcaster SWR reach a wider audience and produce more content during studio downtime. Video switchers and PTZ cameras can be operated remotely, allowing the broadcaster to make efficient use of production hardware and produce great-looking programs around the clock with fewer staff on site.

Leading the way in multi-platform content creation

Regional public broadcaster SWR serves an estimated audience of over 14 million, making it Germany’s second largest broadcasting organization.

SWR’s brand-new “Studio X” in Baden-Baden is comprehensively equipped for multimedia production, allowing the broadcaster to create online, television and radio content within a single reconfigurable space.

Unlocking fresh value from existing resources

Working closely with Sony, SWR has implemented an innovative Smart Production solution to simplify the creation of high-quality multimedia content with efficient re-use of current production resources.

SWR’s existing Sony XVS series video switcher and BRC Series PTZ (pan tilt zoom) robotic cameras can be operated remotely from another location at any time, including periods when the main studio is not being used for other productions. This flexible solution allows the broadcaster to produce great-looking programs around the clock with fewer staff on site.

Reaching a new audience

“Smart Production is the new concept that we developed together with SWR in order for them to create more content,” says Claus Pfeifer, Head of Connected Content Acquisition at Sony Professional Solutions. “We are doing this by re-using their existing Sony XVS vision switcher and remote cameras, controlling them via an intuitive touchscreen interface – allowing SWR to use their equipment even better and reach a new audience.”
