A hands-on introduction to the latest products
Sony Store Sapporo on the Japanese island of Hokkaido offers visitors a hands-on experience with the latest Sony products, including BRAVIA televisions, Alpha interchangeable lens cameras and Walkman portable audio players. Located in the large moyuk SAPPORO shopping complex, the recently relocated store welcomes customers to find out for themselves about the appeal of Sony products.
The new retail space also features a “video experience corner” where content creators can gather, try products and showcase their activities. “We offer a video shooting experience that makes full use of proper lighting equipment, as well as post-production editing and live streaming methods,” explains Sony Store Sapporo Stylist Takuya Mitarai: “We’ve created an environment where everyone from beginners to professional video creators can experience it for themselves.”
Redesigned with visual impact in mind
As Takuya explains, BRAVIA 4K Professional Displays feature extensively across the new Sony Store: “We have completely redesigned all of our in-store displays using BRAVIA. We’ve installed three wall-mounted 65-inch BRAVIA BZ40L screens in the video experience corner, together with a 55-inch BZ40L that’s ceiling mounted above the audio corner, and a large 75-inch screen in the gallery space. In addition, the multipurpose room that’s used for events is equipped with our largest 98-inch BRAVIA BZ50L.”
Reducing distracting screen glare and reflections
On-screen glare and reflections caused by sunlight or artificial lighting can be a big issue with displays used in brightly-lit retail spaces. Prior to reopening at its new location, the previous Sony Store in Sapporo often forced staff to alter the position and direction of lights mounted high up in the room to avoid glare and reflection on screens during special in-store events. A further issue was unwanted reflections of camera crews and customers during live streaming events. The BRAVIA BZ40L series greatly reduces this, using Sony’s advanced Deep Black Non-Glare Coating technology. “It’s the perfect choice for our needs,” notes Takuya. “With almost no glare, you don’t have to climb up a stepladder to adjust the lights before an event, and then adjust them again when you’re done.”
Works by professional and amateur photographers are showcased on a wall-mounted 75-inch BRAVIA BZ40L in the store’s gallery space, where the display’s minimal reflections enhances viewers’ sense of immersion in the work. “As a result, we’ve been able to create a highly satisfying environment,” confirms Takuya: “Not only for store visitors, but also for all the photographers who provide their work to exhibit.”
Extra large attention-grabbing images
The largest model in the BRAVIA line-up, a 98-inch BZ50L is installed in the multipurpose room that’s used for large-scale events. Despite the size of the space, the extra-large screen can be seen effortlessly by viewers all the way in the back of the room. During the store’s opening period, a further 98-inch BRAVIA also greeted shoppers taking the escalator up to the store’s entrance on the third floor of the shopping center, screening product promotion videos and opening announcement videos. “It’s been a really effective way to publicize the relocation and opening of the Sony Store Sapporo,” remarks Takuya, who also highlights the large display’s carefully thought-out design touches. “The 98-inch BZ50L has a handle on the back that’s much appreciated by the staff. It can be difficult to move such a large sized screen. Thanks to the handle this effort is reduced considerably”.
An improved experience for every store visitor
“Renewing our in-store displays with BRAVIA has dramatically improved the ease of viewing images, especially in the video experience corner and gallery space,” says Takuya. “As a result, we feel a sense of accomplishment in making it even easier to see clearly – and make customers want to come and visit us.”
