Remote Production
How can we help?
We offer connected and scalable technological solutions for all types of broadcast production, allowing producers and media companies to work effectively, with a more streamlined production workflow such as fewer on-site staff. We can provide remote production solutions to meet your production needs.
What are the benefits of Remote Production?
In recent years, there has been an increasing demand in broadcasting and other business areas for remote production solutions and remote integration (REMI) that allow resources such as equipment, facilities, and even staff to be shared across locations in real time, resulting in greater efficiency and effectiveness. A more flexible and efficient use of production resources across remote site or multiple facilities from a central IP-enabled facility can help reduce costs by minimizing travel while maximizing resources.
Experts you can trust to transform your production
Sony has been at the forefront of IP-based production innovation for the past decade. We can leverage our experience in deploying more than 100 OB trucks and studio systems globally to help you realize the benefits of IP — driving workflow efficiencies in every live production application, on any scale.
Sony acquired Nevion, a leading provider of virtualized media production solutions, to enhance its Portfolio of end-to-end IP-based solutions. Nevion’s network control and compression knowledge enables more flexible and efficient remote production.
At Sony we can help you with the people, the know-how, the technology and partnerships to consult, advise, and implement — whether you are looking to take the leap to a full IP, or best utilize your existing investments and equipment.
Use your current SDI Systems
Enjoy the first benefits of remote production with minimal investment. Extend your existing SDI camera system over IP, with the IP extension adaptors (HDCE-TX30 and HDCE-RX30) plus a network switch and PTP grandmaster. Instead of switching to a full IP system, use your existing assets to improve your operations without compromising your budget.
Simple, flexible operation with ST 2110 system
Our HDCE-TX30 gives you full control, returns, intercom, and tally information for remote cameras without CCUs. The hitless failover guarantee of SMPTE ST 2022-7 fully protects your transmission, while compliance with SMPTE ST2110 and AMWA NMOS means no operational compromises at remote sites. And Nevion’s Virtuoso can compress your video signals when bandwidth is limited. Meanwhile, our Live System Manager (LSM) lets you remotely set up, control, and reconfigure your entire IP live production system.
Control from remote locations
With COVID-19, we all need to be able to work from anywhere. Thankfully, your operators can remotely control cameras, while switchers can use our web apps to support setting from satellite or home offices. And you can keep your production team safe in your broadcast center, while reducing the number of people needed at your OB truck. Processing at site allows you to operate only control line remotely even with narrow network bandwidth.

Our core remote production components
HDCE-TX30: IP Camera Extension Adaptor
Our new IP adaptor puts the HDC-3500 (and our previous generation of HD system cameras) at the heart of an IP remote production. Paired with the HDC-3500, the HDCE-TX30 can unlock simultaneous HDR/SDR production over IP. And with two new licenses, 4x Super Motion and 4K UHD become possible as well, giving you IP-based HFR and 4K remote solutions. All joined with the workflow stability and resource sharing that underpins remote and distributed production.

XVS Switchers: remote, virtual, and distributed operations
With social distancing in place, and the media industry facing more challenges than ever, we want to help. Our customers can use their XVS switchers remotely through virtual toolsets like Virtual Menu, Virtual Panel, and Virtual Shotbox—for free, on a trial basis. Now, operators and technical staff can work from home or remote studios too.
Centralized News Production with ELC
The last few months have seen companies that traditionally produce shows from a studio move to a distributed approach, with different parts of the process happening across different locations, but with a centralized technological infrastructure.
Our ELC solution is designed specifically with stations for streamlined news production. Major broadcast groups have implemented numerous ELC installations and operated ELC remotely during the pandemic. Production control operations can be fully distributed, or a single home-based operator can direct the production remotely at a central Hub. Commentators, anchors, and floor directors can work from different locations using ELC, allowing news to be produced by a team of experts located anywhere in the world.
Sony's vision: High-quality live production from anywhere
Broadcasters face the growing challenge of running high-quality event productions with the processing capabilities of their broadcast center. And the demand for live content is only increasing.
We are working to help content creators improve their production efficiency, minimize costs, and produce more events within their existing budget. We want them to enjoy greater savings by sharing the resources of their main production center with remote locations and other sites.
Below, we have four different scenarios that illustrate Sony’s vision of high-quality live production from anywhere, enabled by the IP Live Production System.
